Special Effects
1. Word Art
a. Word Art is a text-formatting tool that was first introduced in Word 97. Word Art creates banner-style text displays, which can then be inserted and sized in a document.
b. To insert Word Art, position your cursor in the approximate place in your document where you want the picture to be inserted. Click on the Insert option on the formatting line at top of the Word Window. This will drop down the Insert menu and will give you the Clip Art, From File, and Word Art options. You may choose to click the Word Art button on the Drawing toolbar.
A dialog window will appear:

c. The dialog window contains a series of text styles. Select one of the styles and click the OK button. This will insert your Word Art where you have positioned your cursor.
d. Another dialog window will appear that lets the user enter the text to be used in the Word Art. Some minor formatting changes for the Word Art are also permitted. Enter the desired text and click the OK button.
2. Inserting pictures in AutoShapes
a. Position the cursor in the approximate place in your document where you want the picture to be inserted. Push [Enter] key several times.
b. Select a shape from the AutoShapes button on the Drawing toolbar.
c. For instance, the Thought Cloud is on the top right side of the cascading Callout menu under AutoShapes.
d. Click on the Thought Cloud shape, Your cursor will become a thin black cross. Position your cursor where you desire the cloud to be placed. Click once on the upper left side then drag the cursor diagonally to the lower right side. This will result in a box with a drawing of a Thought Cloud inside; during the dragging you will begin to see how the cloud takes shape. You may need to adjust the shape to fit your needs before you go on.
e. To make adjustments, right-click the shape,
then click Format AutoShape...
f. Click the Colors and Lines tab.

g. Under Fill, click Color, and then click Fill Effects...
h. Click the Picture tab, and then click Select Picture. Switch to the folder that contains your pictures, and then click the picture you want.
Exercise: You may wish to experiment with several pictures until you find the perfect AutoShape for your picture. Don't forget any AutoShape will work, not just the Thought Cloud. Have some FUN trying this one!
