TEMPLE READY PREFACE

This section of the ORFHC Desktop will be of primary interest to those who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Check and Repair Files
It is always recommended that patrons perform a check and repair procedure on their PAF file before they do a Temple Ready Submission. This procedure will automatically correct minor errors in their file and then provide a printed report of any more serious errors that they may want to research and correct before moving forward.

Update My Records
The next step is to update their PAF file with the latest Temple Ordinance work for their family members so that they do not duplicate what has already been done. Currently, the only place a member can access the Temple Ready Submission program is at an LDS family history center.

The ‘Update My Records’ option on the Temple Ready Submission screen is the step that should be completed first, as it is a relatively fast procedure and will pick up the majority of the completed ordinance work. Because this option in the church’s Temple Ready program has not been maintained recently, it is essential to use either the PAFInsight program or to check your records individually against the current ‘Temple Ordinance File’ to find those ordinances completed more recently. You may do that from the Temple Ready Submission screen by clicking on the Search Ordinance File or by going to the FamilSearch.org Research site and accessing the IGI ordinances file after Signing-On.

Avoiding duplication in temple ordinances has been expressed as a high priority by President Hinckley. The records of ordinances completed in our PAF files should match the church’s record of ordinances completed before completing a Temple Ready procedure.

Temple Ready Submission
Only after the above procedures have been followed should we open the Temple Ready Submission program and complete a temple submission.

We are instructed to limit our submission, at any given time, to as many names of our family members as we can do ordinances for in a one or two month’s period. (see exception below)
That number of submissions should vary from family to family depending on how many members of the family will be participating in completing the ordinances. Probably, a temple submission should range from 20 to 75 family names.

If a person is planning to submit names to be completed by the temple, as opposed to their own family, than the number of names that can be submitted is not an issue. Those names will be completed at the temple, by members who routinely pick up names, other than their own family names, to do ordinances for. In either case, all the names submitted have to be verified prior to submission, to assure that the work has not already been completed.

The Temple Ready Submission procedure currently has to be completed at a family history center. That requirement may change when the new ‘FamilySearch.org’ site is finished, as has been mentioned above. Before accessing the Temple Ready Submission screen we have to close our PAF file, which should have been restored, from your backup, to the Center’s C drive under a file called AllPaf.

The Temple Ready Submission program icon is accessed from the Center’s desktop, after clicking on the icon, you will be given the option to reopen your PAF file through the Temple Submission program. When your file is opened in the Temple Ready program you will be lead through the procedure, step by step, until you are done.

TEMPLE SUBMISSION INFORMATION
Preston England Temple

Currently Temple Ready Submission software is only available for use at a Family History Center or at the SLC Family History Library. Eventually with the new FamilySearch.org program becoming available, members of the Church will be able to "sign on" and perform Temple Ready Submission procedures on their home computers.

Wherever Temple Ready Submission is performed, persons preparing names should prepare their files by checking for errors and performing the following steps to avoid duplicating Temple ordinances. They should perform the "Update My Records" step as part of the Temple Ready procedures. They should also perform either a PAF Insight or one-on-one check of the names that a person is planning to submit against the IGI database.
